Recycle your eclipse glasses at the library!

Don’t throw away your eclipse glasses! Astronomers Without Borders will be taking donations to give out to students in developing countries in Asia and South America. Bring your glasses to the Children’s Department at the Blount County Public Library and they will send them along to people in need.

Annual used book/media sale to benefit Relay for Life

Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church will host its annual used book & media sale on Friday, February 20 (from 2:00 to 7:00) and on Saturday, February 21 (from 9:00 to 3:00). The sale will be in the Welcome Center of the church. There will be a good selection of children’s books, inspirational books, Christian novels, biographies, DVDs, CDs and more. I’ve always found fantastic books at this sale!

If you have books & media you’d like to part with, donations can be brought to the church prior to the sale. Mt. Lebanon is located at the corner of Wildwood and Peppermint Roads in Maryville. For more information, call Linda at 705-2213 or visit the church website.

Giveaway: win tickets to Junior Service League of Maryville’s Breakfast with Santa, Saturday Dec. 6

Junior Service League of Maryville‘s Breakfast with Santa, which is presented by Foothills Bank & Trust, will be held on Saturday, December 6th at the Green Meadow Country Club in Alcoa. There are four seatings to the event: 8:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 10:00 a.m. Tickets are $15 each and include a full breakfast buffet and a photo with Santa.While you’re there, you can also get some shopping done in the vendor area which features gifts from Scholastic, Dandy Lion Gifts, Origami Owl, Pampered Chef, and face painting.

Children ages 2 & under are free.

Tickets are available for purchase at Dandy Lions Gifts in Maryville. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time, as they’re not available at the door. You can also purchase your tickets online here. Don’t have kids to bring? You can also purchase tickets at Dandy Lions to be donated to local agencies so a needy child can attend the breakfast.

100% of the proceeds go to support Junior Service League’s efforts to supply underprivileged children with toys at Christmas through the Toys for Blount County program. This annual toy drive has collected Christmas gifts for Blount County’s children in need since 1972. The Junior Service League of Maryville works year round to provide toys to more than 1,400 area children in need each year.

We have our tickets already. We attend this breakfast every year, and my girls always have a fantastic time!

Blount County Young Life wreath sale begins today

Blount County Young Life‘s annual Christmas wreath sale has begun! We have purchased one of the 24″ Frasier Fir wreaths for the past couple of years now, and they make your house smell amazing! Here’s the pricing info, below.

24″ wreaths = $20 or $25 with handmade bow

30ft of fresh garland = $25

You can order anytime between now and November 18th. Wreaths will be available at the Young Life office by Nov. 25th.

Junior Service League of Maryville has an exciting new fundraising event to benefit Toys for Blount County! “MERRY MARGARITAS” will take place on March 8th from 6 – 10 p.m. at Second Harvest Event Center in Maryville. There will be a nice Mexican-themed dinner, drinks, a silent auction, and live music by The Buchanan Boys.

Tickets are $50 each and are available for purchase at Dandy Lions Gifts in Maryville or from any Junior Service League member. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time, as they’re not available at the door.

Fantasy of Trees Volunteers needed

The Fantasy of Trees is in need of volunteers to make this annual event (benefiting Children’s Hospital) a success. It may also count toward service hours for school or various organizations. If you or your whole family would like to volunteer please email fot@etch.com. Feel free to pass this along to any groups needing service project hours. The minimum age to volunteer is 12 years old.

Appalachian Ballet Company’s 2013 Bluejeans and Ballet fundraiser

The Appalachian Ballet Company’s 10th Annual Bluejeans & Ballet will be Thursday, September 19 on the Clayton Center Plaza for dinner and drinks at 6 p.m. followed by the performance at 7:15 p.m. in Lambert Recital Hall.
RSVP by Thursday Sept.12. Tickets are $55/person, and all proceeds benefit the ABC. For more information visit the Appalachian Ballet’s website or call 865-982-8463.

Giveaway: win a ticket to the Junior Service League of Maryville’s Bloomingdeals Spring Rummage Sale Sip N’ See Preview Party

The  Junior Service League of Maryville‘s Bloomingdeals Spring Rummage Sale is Saturday, April 20 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the National Guard Armory on Highway 321, and admission is free. However, if you want to shop early, you’ll definitely want to attend the Sip N’ Shop event on Friday April 19 from 6 – 8 p.m. Tickets are $15, and you’ll get to shop before anyone else, PLUS your admission includes food, drinks, and music by the fabulous Brad Blackwell! There is also a Silent Auction this year that features amazing baskets and incredible getaways, including a stay at Butterfly Gap Retreat, a 2-hr DJ session for a kids birthday party from Effective Mobile DJ Service, and a night at the Christmas Tree Inn in Pigeon Forge. This is my first year as a Junior Service League Sustainer, so I won’t be working a setup shift, but I’ll share photos as they become available. I am looking forward to shopping at Bloomingdeals; I have found SO many great deals at this sale in the past two years. Plus, it’s all for a great cause: all proceeds from Bloomingdeals benefit Toys for Blount County, JSL’s program that provides Christmas presents to local children in need.
