Get ticket deals NOW for “A Christmas Carol” at the Clarence Brown Theatre!

Last year my two daughters had the amazing experience of performing in “A Christmas Carol” at the Clarence Brown Theatre. They learned so much from the experience, and of course I wanted to see them perform as many times as possible. I sought out all the best ticket deals I could find so I could share with friends and family. Although it is a wonderful thing to be able to support live theater through the purchase of full-price tickets – and I greatly admire those patrons who do! – sometimes your budget will only allow you to experience theater if you can find a really great deal.  Part of the Clarence Brown’s mission is to educate the local community about theater, and they offer some great ways to allow families to experience shows even when budgets are tight. Here are some of my favorite deals at the CBT.

The Clarence Brown Theatre (CBT) offers a special evening called “Family Feast”, where each ticket is $10 and includes dinner before the show! The stated purpose of this evening is “to promote the fading practice of family dinners and to celebrate community through theatre,” and you must make reservations as a family or group – however you define family! There are two Family Feasts each year, one for their spring show and one for A Christmas Carol. This year the Family Feast night for Christmas Carol is Wednesday, December 6. You have to call the Clarence Brown box office directly to get tickets. (865) 974-5161. They’re only open from noon to 5 weekdays. You can’t get this deal online, and it sells out very quickly! For more info about Family Feast, go here.

The CBT also participates in the Penny for the Arts program – absolutely one of my FAVORITE deals. When you buy one discounted adult ticket ($22 or so) you can get up to 3 kids’ tickets for a penny. (Additional tickets for your group will be regular price.) Yet again, you have to call the Clarence Brown box office directly to get these tickets, and make sure you ask for Penny for the Arts tickets. You can only get the Penny for the Arts deal for the following weeknight shows: Nov 29-Dec. 1, and Dec. 5-8.

For more on Penny for the Arts, go here.

The CBT offers a “Pay What You Wish Preview Wednesday” for most of its shows. Tickets may be purchased in person from 4:00pm until curtain the day of the below performances at the CBT Box Office kiosk in the lobby. Cash only, in full dollar amounts accepted and tickets are available on a first come, first served basis. Limited to 8 tickets per purchase.

In my experience, the Christmas Carol “Pay What You Wish” night sells out very quickly, mostly from University of Tennessee students who see the show for free on the same night with their student IDs (which is also a great deal!) I would go ahead and have tickets in hand from one of the other above deals. But, since it’s a great deal, I’m including it on this list. Here are this season’s Pay What You Wish dates:

And here’s where you can go for more info on Pay What You Wish Wednesday preview nights.

Finally, a REALLY great way to see free shows is by working as an usher! When you commit to usher before and after a show (and during intermission) you can see the show from a special usher’s seat for free! Go here to sign up for ushering spots.

2017 blueberry-picking season has started!

20120711-080244.jpg

Blueberry season has started! Here in Maryville we have an excellent organic blueberry farm called Falls Farms. Their orchard is over 30 years old and has never been sprayed with pesticides. They encourage you to “eat as you go!” and are proud that they are chemical-free.

The best time to pick blueberries locally is usually in July and August, and I’ve heard reports that the berries are delicious now!
You can find Falls Farms at 111 Harmon Road, Maryville, TN 37804, across from the drive-in movies.

Phone: 865-982-3457

Open: July and August, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday,
from 6:30 am to 8:30 pm; Closed Wednesdays and Fridays.

Cost: Last year blueberries were $1.50/pound, cash only. Please let me know if you find this has changed.

Whether you’re going alone or for a field trip with your kids, you’ll have a great time. We love picking blueberries here every year!

AMC Summer Movie Schedule – possibly at our AMC Foothills 12 movie theater?

AMC Theatres has announced its 2017 Summer Movie Camp lineup, available at AMC Classic theater locations. Since our Foothills Mall movie theater is now “AMC Foothills 12” they may be participating…but I haven’t been able to confirm that yet. Since Foothills is not titled as a “Classic” theater, they may not be participating in any summer movie promotions. This is going to take a little more detective work on my part.  Please contact the movie theater directly to be sure Foothills is participating before you head out with your kids next week! If not, the Knoxville AMC Classic Knoxville 16 at 200 North Peters Road will definitely be offering Summer Movie Camp, and you can see their schedule here.

As part of Summer Movie Camp, AMC theatres offer $4 admission, which includes a ticket and a Kidspack with popcorn, fountain drink and FrootiTooti fruit snacks.

The summer movie camp lineup features:

  • THE LORAX
  • TROLLS
  • THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS
  • HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
  • PUP STAR
  • SING
  • HOME
  • DESPICABLE ME
  • THE PEANUTS MOVIE
