Maryville City Movies in the Park is back for 2017!

Maryville City will be presenting Movies in the Park again this year! This is always one of our favorite summer events. The movie schedule begins this Friday, June 23 with The Secret Life of Pets. The rest of the lineup is below. Most movies start at 8:45, but that may be updated, so check before you go! You can get all the info on Maryville City’s website here.

Start time depends on sunset due to screen illumination. Located at Theater in the Park (Jack Green Park) near the Blount County Courthouse. The park does not have a physical address – it is near 325 Court Circle, Maryville Tennessee. The park is open seating and visitors can come in anytime.

Secret Life of Pets

Two mismatched mutts get lost in NYC due to their feuding, and must find their way home. During their journey, they encounter a vicious bunny who plans to lead a group of abandoned pets on a mission of revenge against humanity.
Sing

June 30, 2017 8:45 p.m.
A koala impresario stages a gala singing competition in order to save his theater, and the contest attracts the attention of such musically inclined animals as a harried pig mom, a teenage gorilla, a shy elephant and a punk porcupine.

​July 28 – People’s Choice (or Rainout if any previous movies get rained out!)

These free movies are shown at the Theater in the Park across from the courthouse. Get there early to reserve a good spot!

For all to enjoy the event:

  • Picnics, blankets and lawn chairs are welcome. 
  • Wear insect repellent – mosquitoes don’t follow rules.
  • If you get chilly in the evenings, bring an extra blanket!
  • No concessions will be available, but feel free to bring your own coolers and picnic baskets.
Rules
• No smoking – including e-cigarettes or tobacco products
• No alcohol
• No glass containers
• No pop-up tents or other structures
• Please turn off cell phones
• No illuminated devices during the movie except
​  in the device zone (the pavilion)

Free admission for dads to Zoo Knoxville on Father’s Day (June 18)!

Have you seen the new Tiger Forest exhibit at Zoo Knoxville? If not, you may want to take advantage of this deal: the zoo is offering free admission for all dads on Father’s Day, June 18! We recently visited the zoo and thought the new additions were just beautiful. My kids loved seeing the tigers, and we all thought the architecture was very elegant.

All dads get free zoo admission on Sunday, June 18, 2017.
Guests can explore the all new Tiger Forest and take a break to cool off with some water play at the Clayton Safari Splash, which is now open for the season.
Free admission for fathers is valid on Sunday, June 18, 2017, only and cannot be combined with any other discount or offer.

Easter 2017: egg hunts and other activities in Blount County

Here is a list of Easter egg hunts and other fun activities in Blount County this 2017 Easter season. Please comment below if you have one to add!

April 1

Faith Encounter will be hosting its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 1st. There will be free food, inflatables for the kids to play on, and of course, an Easter egg hunt!  The fun begins at 4pm. More info here.

April 8

First United Methodist Alcoa’s Family Fun Day begins with a 9 a.m. pancake breakfast followed by craft time and pictures with the Easter Bunny (bring your camera). There will be a very special telling of the Resurrection of Jesus, plus a huge Egg Hunt and prizes. More info here.

April 9

First Baptist Church of Maryville will have an Easter Egg Hunt for toddlers through 3rd grade in the Greenbelt Park (across the street from the church). There will be crafts, games, food trucks and more for all ages! Feel free to bring chairs, blankets, egg baskets, bicycles, and any other family games! More info here.

April 14

Fairview United Methodist will have its annual Easter egg hunt at 2:30 p.m. Event includes a cookout, music, egg hunt, inflatables, and fun! More info here.

RIO Revolution Church will host its 3rd Annual Light the Night from 6 – 8 p.m. This event will feature a glow-in-the-dark egg hunt. More info here.

April 15

Blount Community Church will have an Easter celebration at 10 a.m. & 2 p.m. They will have an egg hunt, snacks, crafts, games, and prizes. More info here.

The Jaycees’ Easter Festival will be on Saturday, April 15th at Springbrook Park. The free egg hunt begins at noon. “Age Groups are 3 and under, 4 to 7, and 8 to 12. Easter Games from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm (nominal charge – tickets are 50 cents each). Inflatable Playland 10:00 am to 2:00 pm (Arm bands includes 6 tickets for $10). Pap Paw’s Blue Barrel Train Express around the park from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm (Arm band gets you one ride or you can use 4 tickets to ride it). Concessions: Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Chips and Drinks (Maybe Italian Ice or Hawaiian Shaved Ice).” More info here.

Free student performance of La Boheme tonight at the Knoxville Opera (+$5 for accompanying adults)

The Knoxville Opera will be performing Puccini’s La Boheme on February 10 and 12. If you’d like to see it at a really deep discount, consider attending the student dress rehearsal TONIGHT (Wednesday, February 8 at 6:30 p.m.) This full dress rehearsal is exactly the same as the regular performance (the show runs without stopping with full costumes/set) and is FREE for students and just $5 for accompanying adults (cash only, MUST be accompanying a student). You’ll enter the Tennessee Theatre through the Gay Street entrance beginning at 5:30 p.m. For more info on the student dress rehearsal, go here.

McAlister’s Deli Alcoa Grand Reopening: free tea tumblers!

McAlister’s Deli in Alcoa is celebrating the grand re-opening of its restaurant today! (Friday, Jan. 20.)  The first 25 guests in line will receive a McAlister’s Tumbler and holiday Tea Glass Sweater. The restaurant will officially open at 10:15 a.m., I believe, although there will probably be a line out front. Here’s a photo of the tea sweater:

The nice thing about McAlister’s tumblers is that when you bring it with you to eat you can fill it with tea for just $0.99!
