“The Lifegiving Home: Creating a Place of Belonging and Becoming,” by Sally & Sarah Clarkson

I recently had the chance to read The Lifegiving Home: Creating a Place of Belonging and Becoming, by Sally & Sarah Clarkson. This nonfiction book was published on February 2, 2016, by Tyndale House.

About this book (from the back cover):

Does your home sometimes feel like just a place to eat, sleep, and change clothes on the way to the next activity? Do you long for “home” to mean more than a place where you stash your stuff? Wouldn’t you love it to become a haven of warmth, rest, and joy . . . the one place where you and your family can’t wait to be?

There is good news waiting for you in the pages of The Lifegiving Home. Every day of your family’s life can be as special and important to you as it already is to God. In this unique book designed to help your family enjoy and celebrate every month of the year together, you’ll discover the secrets of a life-giving home from a mother who created one and her daughter who was raised in it: popular authors Sally and Sarah Clarkson. Together they offer a rich treasure of wise advice, spiritual principles, and practical suggestions. You’ll embark on a new path to creating special memories for your children; establishing home-building and God-centered traditions; and cultivating an environment in which your family will flourish.

Final Verdict:

This is the best book that I’ve ever had trouble finishing in one sitting. Let me explain. When I first picked up this book, I had every intention of settling down and taking a few hours to read through it. However, as I read through each of the chapters – the more practical ones by Sally Clarkson, and the more poetic ones by Sarah – I was struck repeatedly by ways I could use their suggestions to make my own home a more welcoming place. So, I would toss the book down, light some candles, rearrange furniture, write notes I had put off writing, even bake bread! I have had so much fun working through this book over a number of days, and have tabbed corners, highlighted passages, and read parts out loud to my husband. I cannot remember when I have so enjoyed a nonfiction book. The Clarksons welcome you into their beautiful family, full of traditions, celebrations, and practical ideas for using one’s home and family to show Christ’s love to one’s community, centering in one’s own home. This is a book that will always live in my house (not one to read and pass on, although I’ve been recommending to friends that they buy their own copies!) There is a companion guide that I plan on purchasing, too, that helps you plan out how to implement the ideas from the book, as well as book/movie/event suggestions. I found this book to be so refreshing and inspiring to me as a wife and mother! Highly recommended!
