“Of Mess and Moxie: Wrangling Delight Out of This Wild and Glorious Life,” by Jen Hatmaker

I recently had the chance to read Of Mess and Moxie: Wrangling Delight Out of This Wild and Glorious Life, by Jen Hatmaker. This nonfiction book was published on August 8, 2017 by Thomas Nelson.

About this book (from the back cover):

New York Times bestselling author, Big Sister Emeritus, and Chief BFF Jen Hatmaker returns with another round of hilarious tales, shameless honesty, and hope for the woman who has forgotten her moxie.

In this highly anticipated new book, beloved author Jen Hatmaker parlays her own triumphs and tragedies into a sigh of relief for all normal, fierce women everywhere. Whether it’s the time she drove to the wrong city for a fourth-grade field trip (“Why are we in San Antonio?”) or the way she learned to forgive (God was super clear: Pray for this person every day, which was the meanest thing He ever said to me. I was furious.), she offers a reminder to those of us who sometimes hide in the car eating crackers that we do have the moxie to get back up and get back out. We can choose to live undaunted “in the moment” no matter what the moments hold, and lead vibrant, courageous, grace-filled lives.

My Verdict:

I have always been a fan of Jen Hatmaker’s big heart and hilarious writing style. Although we have differences in opinion on theology, I can read her books in the same vein as the “Sweet Potato Queens” books: sassy, fun ways of looking at life from a different perspective. This book in particular is targeted less to women of faith and more to the general public, thus the author bio without the mention that she is a pastor’s wife. The anecdotes are funny, and light. Recommended to those who can enjoy a funny story even if they don’t line up completely with the author’s religious beliefs.

If you’d like to check out Of Mess and Moxie it is currently on sale for $9.99 for the Kindle version right now. If you prefer a physical copy the hardcover version is currently on sale for $16.09. Remember, Amazon’s prices can change at any time.
