Free performance of Puccini’s opera “La Bohéme” on Jan 14

January 7, 2017

On Saturday, January 14, at 11 a.m., the Blount County Public Library will present “La Bohéme,” an Opera by Puccini” in a free, shortened version by artists from the Knoxville Opera Company under the direction of Maestro Brian Salesky. Themes in this opera were modernized by the 1996 Broadway musical, Rent. The themes include the joy of falling in love, the Bohemian lifestyle, challenges of sustaining a loving relationship and dealing with the illness and death of a loved one. The performance will be at the Reading Rotunda end of the Main Gallery of the library and will feature a simplified set, piano accompaniment and performances by three of the main characters (Mimi, Rodolfo and Musetta). At this YouTube link, you can watch at least six complete live performance videos if you’d like to check them out before the live program at the library. This opera preview will be sung in English, and there will be time for questions and answers after the program.
