Blueberry season has started! Here in Maryville we have an excellent organic blueberry farm called Falls Farms. Their orchard is over 30 years old and has never been sprayed with pesticides. They encourage to “eat as you go!” and are proud that they are chemical-free.
The best time to pick blueberries locally is usually in July and August, and I’ve heard reports that the berries are delicious now!
You can find Falls Farms at 111 Harmon Road, Maryville, TN 37804, across from the drive-in movies.
Open: July and August, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday,
from 6:30 am to 8:30 pm; Closed Wednesdays and Fridays.
Cost: Last year blueberries were $1.50/pound, cash only. Please let me know if you find this has changed.
Whether you’re going alone or for a field trip with your kids, you’ll have a great time. We love picking blueberries here every year!

The Tennessee Smokies have a fantastic summer reading program where children 12 and under can get free tickets to baseball games, Zoo tickets, and more! Each time your child reads 10 books (or has 10 books read to him/her) you complete a level. My girls did this last time and really enjoyed getting to see a few games and get some fun prizes!
Here’s the official prize list:
LEVEL 1 – The Single: Two Smokies Tickets & Shoney’s Bookmark!
LEVEL 2 – The Double: Two Smokies Tickets & a Shoney’s Pencil!
LEVEL 3 – The Triple: Two Smokies Tickets, a Knoxville Zoo ticket, & a Free Shoney’s Dessert!
LEVEL 4 – The Home Run: Two Tickets to August 8th Reading Club Celebration Night at the Ballpark, 2 Meal Vouchers good for a Hot Dog, Bag of Chips & a Drink, a Smokies Card Set & a Shoney’s Healthy Kids Meal! (Level 4 form should be turned in by August 1st to be eligible for the August 8th Celebration & Prize night.)
Here’s more info, from the Tennessee Smokies website:
Our Summer Reading Program consists of five levels of achievement for all program participants. Children can read 10 chapters or books, or have read to them 10 books (if not reading on their own) to move up each level. Reading Program Participants who complete the Grand Slam Level will be eligible to win great prizes that will be given away at the Summer Reading Program Picnic on August 4th, including Tickets to an Atlanta Braves Game!
To get you started, here’s the Level One entry form. You’ll receive the Level Two entry form when you turn your Level One form in at the box office!

Chick-fil-a has a new app to help customers avoid standing in line! The app, called Chick-fil-A One, allows customers to order and pay for their food in advance, then pick it up at a counter designated for online orders.
Through June 11, when you download the free app to your phone, you’ll see an offer inside for a FREE chicken sandwich. They also track your purchases and offer you additional free treats as you purchase more items.

The Fairview UMC Children’s Consignment Sale will be July 16, and they’re now accepting consignors. Registration is online this year, and you can sign up here. More information is available in the image below, and you can also visit the church website here or join the Facebook group here. Remember, there will be a special pre-sale open only to consignors on Friday, July 15 at 6:30 p.m. Two tickets will be issued per consignor. (If you’d like to have additional friends join you, pre-sale tickets may be purchased for $10 the night of the event to enter at 7:00 p.m.)
This sale is one of my favorites, because you can consign items from any season, and because they mail your consignment check straight to your house! I always consign in this sale, and can definitely recommend it! I will have a giveaway for pre-sale passes in a few weeks, so stay posted!
