Poetry Teatime
Every Tuesday my girls and I have Poetry Teatime. This is a tradition we love, and one we discovered through the Brave Writer website. Brave Writer now has a new website dedicated entirely to poetry teatimes. When you visit the new website here you can get a FREE Quick Start Guide to Poetry Teatimes.
Here’s the fantastic poetry book I found at a yard sale!
The goal of Poetry Teatime is simple: foster a love of poetry in your children by associating it with beauty and fun. So, we get out Mom’s wedding china, light candles, eat delicious treats like scones, and read whatever poetry we feel like reading! For my children, this tends to include a lot of Shel Silverstein; for me, I’ve been reading Robert Louis Stevenson’s A Child’s Garden of Verses. Another good source for poetry is the Ambleside Online website here. We have also been working on poetry memorization in our homeschool, and Poetry Teatime is the perfect time to recite!
As summer approaches, consider bringing this tradition into your home! For more information on how to get started, visit the Poetry Teatime website here or the Facebook site here.
This post is my entry into the Poetry Teatime contest. You can find more information about the contest here.
