Review and giveaway: Juice Plus nutritional supplements

UPDATE: The winner is comment #33, Judy M. Thanks to all who entered!

Have you ever heard of Juice Plus? My kids and I have been taking these supplements for about three years now, and I’m a really big fan. They’re like multivitamins, except they contain the nutrients from a bunch of different fruits and vegetables. I try to prepare healthy foods for my family, but my girls often go through picky eating phases, so these supplements make me feel better about the nutrition they’re receiving. I wasn’t sure about the Juice Plus health claims when I first purchased these supplements, so I wanted to try it out for myself. I can honestly say that my kids and I don’t seem to get sick as much after we started taking Juice Plus! Now, this product is not cheap – although you can say that if your kids stay well, you’ve cut some costs in doctor visits – but for my family, grandma purchases the Juice Plus as a birthday gift each year.  Also, you can get gummies or capsules from Juice Plus; this worked well for my family because I have one child who will eat gummies and one who won’t (so I mix the powder from the capsules in yogurt each morning.)

I am not a Juice Plus consultant, but my friend Sarah is, so I’ll allow her to tell you a little more about the product:

My name is Sarah Myers. I am a stay-at-home & homeschooling Mommy, photographer (, and a Juice Plus Distributor.  My family and I have been taking Juice Plus for approximately nine months and we have truly been blessed by the results we’ve seen in our overall health.
My two children, ages 4 and 2, are very picky eaters (with several food allergies, as well).  Up until discovering Juice Plus, I was always very concerned about them receiving the nutrition they need.  I heard about Juice Plus from a dear friend. Her daughter was undergoing chemotherapy and they had started Juice Plus in an attempt to keep her healthy during her treatments.  Not only was her family (two younger boys, as well) hardly getting sick, but my friend actually saw complete remission of her lupus symptoms!
I knew that I had to give Juice Plus a try, and to say that I am pleased with the results would be an understatement!  I have more energy, my hair and nails are growing fast/strong, and my whole family’s immune system is much stronger!  Another miraculous result of taking Juice Plus is a phenomenon known as “metabolic reprogramming”.  My daughter now asks for (and devours) salads, cooked kale, and even brussels sprouts!!!
Juice Plus is literally just the juice from 17 different non-GMO fruits and vegetables.  They are picked at their prime ripeness (when they are most nutrient-dense), juiced within 48 hours, dehydrated (at a temperature that allows them to retain their nutrients), and put into capsule and gummy form.  JP is gluten-free, kosher, no preservatives, dyes, or fillers.  JP is 100% bioavailable, which means your body is absorbing 100% of the nutrients and phytonutrients at the cellular level.
JP is also NSF certified and is considered a “whole food”.  As a matter of fact, if a child ate a whole bag of the gummies and you called poison control, they would tell you not to worry.  JP is just food.  However, the child might get an upset stomach due to the HUGE amount of fruits and vegetables consumed. 😉
Something that separates Juice Plus from all of the other nutritional products out there is that JP is THE MOST RESEARCHED name brand nutritional product in the world! Juice Plus has 31 published clinical studies in highly respected medical journals.  You can read the studies in their entirety on my web site here.
Ever heard of Dr. Bill Sears?  He is a HUGE advocate of Juice Plus and actually partnered with JP to form an ongoing Children’s Health Study (CHS).  The CHS allows children ages 4 and over to RECEIVE JUICE PLUS FOR FREE when an adult is also purchasing!!
I would be happy to send a sample of the gummies to anyone interested.  Feel free to email me at: sarahsmyers(at)gmail(dot)com
For more information about Juice Plus, you can take a look at this video, or visit Sarah’s website.

File your taxes for free from H&R Block’s website

Have you filed your taxes yet? I was just talking with a group of friends about how much one should pay to have taxes prepared, and one of my friends mentioned that if your taxes are pretty straightforward, there’s no reason you shouldn’t just file them yourself through H&R Block’s free website. There are prompts that assist you with entering all your info, so it’s a simple process. Of course, if your taxes are more involved – like mine – you may still want to pay a tax prep expert to handle them for you 🙂

Here’s the official show info:

In this original storyline, Mickey and Minnie lead the audience on an exciting adventure that will have families rooting for their favorite pirate Jake and Disney’s first little girl princess Sofia. Disney Junior Live On Tour! Pirate & Princess Adventure begins with a special interactive pre-show featuring the loveable 6-year-old doctor to toys and stuffed animals, Doc McStuffins. Children and their parents will sing the “I Feel Better Song” along with Doc as she provides tender love and care.

Audiences will then embark on a journey to the magical world of Enchancia, where Sofia, her step-siblings Amber and James, and the entire kingdom are preparing for the annual friendship festival. Sofia has the honor of delivering the perfect gift to her royal subjects at the celebration, and the one-and-only Cinderella visits the castle to help Sofia in her mission to find just the right present.

The excitement continues when families cast away to Never Land where Jake and his Yo Ho pirate friends Izzy and Cubby are in a race against time to locate a mysterious treasure-filled volcano. Danger, thrills and adventure lurk around every turn when our swashbuckling friends battle Captain Hook for the ultimate prize. Peter Pan makes a special appearance, aiding the team in their heroic quest, and with the help of Tinker Bell’s pixie dust, Jake and his crew fly above the stage in their journey.

Review, Kindle sale (and REALLY good freebie!): A Draw of Kings, by Patrick W. Carr

I recently had the chance to read A Draw of Kings, by Patrick W. Carr, a Christian fantasy novel that was published on February 4 by Bethany House.

A Draw of Kings is the third book in the Staff and The Sword trilogy, and before you read anything else, I need you to go download the first book in the trilogy, A Cast of Stones because it’s FREE for Kindle right now and it’s SO good! Here’s a link.

Here’s my review of A Cast of Stones, if you would like to read it to get a synopsis of the plot, but the fact that this really great book is free for Kindle should be enough motivation to get it.

Now that you’ve done that, here’s more info on the third book in the series.

So, when I found out I was going to get to review A Draw of Kings, but had somehow missed the chance to review the second book, The Hero’s Lot, I promptly ordered it from Amazon. (I got the paperback version but you can get the Kindle version for $5!) I had a feeling this was going to be a trilogy I was going to want to keep, and I was right. Luckily, both books arrived just before a big snowstorm hit my hometown, and I was snowed in with two good books, which is really a dream come true. These books are the kind that makes you shirk your responsibilities and ignore your family, which is what I did for two whole days while I devoured these stories! I am not sure what to compare them to: they’re like Lord of the Rings, but more blatant in their Christian overtones, and kind of like Game of Thrones without all the questionable content. I love books about people going on quests to save their kingdom (Robert Jordan’s books come to mind) and the longer the better. These are the kind of books I’ll give to my kids, when they’re old enough. You won’t want to purchase this book by itself, as it is not a stand-alone story. Make sure you read them in order, or nothing will make sense. I won’t bother giving a plot summary of this book, as you’d need to have read the first two to understand, but know that it includes multiple adventures, a love story, travel across various countries and lands, and finally, a really good ending, which every trilogy should have. My only complaint is that I would have liked a glossary, and a map, which are things I think any good fantasy novel should have. (Although I realize the setting is loosely based on Europe, so maybe I should have just spent more time figuring out exactly how all those countries had been renamed.)

Final verdict: I highly recommend this book, as well as the first two in the series!

If you’d like to check out A Draw of Kings it is currently on sale for $9.99 for the Kindle version right now, which is 33% off. (Regularly $14.99) If you prefer a hard copy it’s currently on sale for $11.09. Remember, Amazon’s prices can change at any time.

The featured product for this review was provided to me at no cost by Bethany House. All opinions expressed are my own.
