Review and giveaway: Merry Christmas, Splat… and more winter stories (Scholastic Storybook Treasures)

November 18, 2013

UPDATE: The winner is #51, Chera. Thanks to all who entered!

My daughters and I recently had the opportunity to watch a new Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVD called “Merry Christmas Splat… and more winter stories.” (If you don’t know about my love for Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVDs, you can read more here.) This DVD happened to arrive on a day off from school, and we enjoyed the chance to get to relax and watch these sweet stories together. We’ve been a fan of Splat the Cat for a while now, and really enjoyed watching his Christmas story. Splat is ridiculously cute, and my girls love the way he’s illustrated.

Surprisingly, out of all the stories included in this collection, my children’s favorite was Snowflake Bentley, the nonfiction account of the farmer-scientist who first photographed snowflakes and discovered their composition. We are headed to the library to check out Snowflake Bentley this week!

I definitely recommend this collection of 4 winter stories to introduce you to new books and get you in the Christmas spirit!

Here are the summaries of the books included on this DVD:

MERRY CHRISTMAS, SPLAT (Written and illustrated by Rob Scotton, narrated by John Keating) Splat is trying hard to be good before Santa’s arrival so he can get all the presents he’s dreamed of on Christmas day!

FLETCHER AND THE SNOWFLAKE CHRISTMAS (By Julia Rawlinson, illustrated by Tiphanie Beeke, narrated by Katherine Kellgren) It’s Christmas Eve and Fletcher wonders how Santa will find his burrow through all the snow.

SNOWFLAKE BENTLEY (By Jacqueline Briggs Martin, illustrated by Mary Azarian, narrated by Sean Astin) This is the story of Willie Bentley, who loved and learned all about snowflakes.

OWL MOON (Written and narrated by Jane Yolen, illustrated by John Schoenherr) A girl and her father search the moonlit woods for the Great Horned Owl.

This DVD retails for $14.95, and you can get 20% off when you use coupon code NEWKIDEO20 at checkout. Also, New Kideo has a fantastic sale going on right now, so check that out too!

There’s also a fun Splat coloring sheet available here!

New Kideo is letting me give one copy of Merry Christmas, Splat… and more winter stories to one of you! Here’s how to win.

Required Entry:

To enter to win, just leave a comment below letting me know what your favorite children’s book is. That’s it! (If you’re reading this on Facebook/Twitter hop on over to thriftychristy.com to leave your comment.)

Additional Optional Entries:

You can do each of the following things for an additional entry in the giveaway. You can only do each of these once, for a possible total of 6 entries.
