Giveaway: win a Blu-ray copy of Return to Nim’s Island (premiering on Hallmark Channel March 15th)

UPDATE: The winner is comment # 106, Kim. Thanks to all who entered!

I am always looking for family-friendly movies to watch with my daughters on Family Movie Night. So, I was pleased to hear that Return to Nim’s Island is premiering on the Hallmark Channel March 15th 2013 at 7 p.m. EST. This is the sequel to Walden Media’s 2008 box office hit Nim’s Island. It picks up the story a few years later with 14-year-old Nim (Bindi Irwin) more determined than ever to protect her island and the animals that call it home. With ruthless resort developers and greedy wildlife poachers threatening the existence she loves, Nim realizes she and her animal pals can’t defend their home alone. To save her island, she is forced to combine forces with an outsider: Edmund, a runaway from the mainland. Only with his help does she stand a chance of stopping the villains from dismantling her world.

You can pick up your copy of Return to Nim’s Island on Blu-ray & DVD exclusively at Walmart Stores just 4 days after the premiere!

Review and Kindle sale: gods at war, by Kyle Idleman

I recently had the chance to read gods at war, by Kyle Idleman. This nonfiction book was released February 19, 2013 by Zondervan.

About this book (from the back cover):

In gods at war, Kyle Idleman, bestselling author of not a fan, helps every believer recognize there are false gods at war within each of us, and they battle for the place of glory and control in our lives. What keeps us from truly following Jesus is that our hearts are pursuing something or someone else. While these pursuits may not be the ‘graven images’ of old, they are in fact modern day idols. Behind the sin you’re struggling with, the discouragement you’re dealing with, the lack of purpose you’re living with is a false god that is winning the war for your heart. According to Idleman, idolatry isn’t an issue—it is the issue. By asking insightful questions, Idleman reveals which false gods each of us are allowing on the throne of our lives. What do you sacrifice for? What makes you mad? What do you worry about? Whose applause do you long for? We’re all wired for worship, but we often end up valuing and honoring the idols of money, sex, food, romance, success and many others that keep us from the intimate relationship with God that we desire. Using true, powerful and honest testimonies of those who have struggled in each area, gods at war illustrates a clear path away from the heartache of our 21st century idolatry back to the heart of God — enabling us to truly be completely committed followers of Jesus.

My Verdict:

I read Kyle Idleman’s last book, not a fan, at the recommendation of a friend, and was impressed by it. Idleman is one of the pastors at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY, and while my husband and I lived in Louisville for grad school & seminary I was able to attend Southeast Christian for a few special events here and there. They had an Easter pageant that was amazing: the kind with live camels and angels on zip lines. Pretty spectacular. Anyway, it was the kind of church that would probably expect a lot from its pastors, so I expected a lot out of Idleman, and my expectations were met. There’s nothing new under the sun, so it’s hard to describe what makes this book about modern-day idolatry so interesting, but it is. He gives relatable anecdotes that illustrate his points well. For example, he makes a comparison between the passion we feel for sporting events to the passion (or lack thereof) that we feel for our involvement with our church. I’ve heard that comparison countless times, yet Idleman’s writing is so engaging that I found my husband and read that passage aloud to him. All in all, I highly recommend this book.

If you’d like to check out gods at war it is currently on sale for $8.89 for the Kindle version right now, which is 41% off. (Regularly $14.99.) If you prefer a hard copy it’s currently on sale for $10.19. Remember, Amazon’s prices can change at any time.

Free $10 Amazon gift card when you spend $10 at Burger King

There are a number of ways to get rewarded when you dine out. Plink is a rewards program that is new to me, but I’m planning to check it out. You get rewards for eating out at select restaurants.

Plus when you join now and link your credit or debit card by Sunday, March 17th and make a $10 purchase at Burger King (after activating Burger King in your Plink wallet), you’ll get a $10 gift card of your choice (to be rewarded on March 21st). Choices include Amazon, Target, Walmart, and more.

If you’ll be eating out during a Spring Break road trip, this may be a great way to get some free-ish food!

When you join, you do need to link either your credit or debit card in order for them to track your rewards. I would suggest linking a credit card if you’re concerned about keeping your information secure.I’ve done this before with a number of rewards programs and have never had any problems.

Here’s more security info from Plink:

Why Trust Plink?

Your account is safe with Plink. We use bank-level encryption to secure your login credentials. We establish a read-only connection to download your transactions, but we cannot view or access your card account number.

We only use your transactions to track your purchases so we can award you with virtual currency or other incentives. Your personal information is never sold or shared.

CVS: $2 off $10 coupon, makes Coke 12-Packs $1.60!

There’s a new CVS store coupon available for $2 off a $10 purchase at CVS. This coupon is only good through tomorrow March 13th and the site is kind of slammed right now, so you’ll have to be patient.

Here’s a good deal to use it on: CVS has Coke 12-packs for 5 for $15 with your ExtraCare Card, plus you get $5 ECBs back. Combine with the above store coupon and it’s kind of like getting 5 12-packs of Coke products for $8!

Thanks, Coupon Cravings!
