Review and discount: Truth in the Tinsel – an Advent Experience for Little Hands

The Advent season begins this Sunday! How will you be celebrating Advent with your family? Here are some recommendations.

First, I recently had the chance to read the book Truth in the Tinsel: An Advent Experience for Little Hands. The author, Amanda White, wrote this book when her children were 3 and 5 (which is how old my daughters are this year) but she has had families email her that they use it with their older children too. Truth in the Tinsel offers 24 days of Scriptures, crafts, discussion, and activities to help you keep your family centered on Christ during the Christmas season.

She presents an ornament craft each day that you can create with your kids; if crafts aren’t your thing she also offers printable ornaments here. I am not super crafty so I really appreciated that Amanda gives you a shopping list that clearly lists everything you’ll need for each project. You can use these ornaments on your Jesse Tree or on a regular Christmas tree. I also liked the printable “clues” for each day’s story that you can slip into a regular Advent calendar, or if you prefer, you can make a paper chain to use to reveal each day’s clue. Here’s mine. Crafts are obviously not my strong suit, and we only have a black-and-white printer, but it still achieves its purpose.

I’m thrilled that Amanda is offering 20% off Truth in the Tinsel with coupon code CULTIVATE. Go here to purchase the ebook or the printable ornaments.

Also, Truth in the Tinsel was just released in Spanish! Go here to purchase La Verdad en el Oropel.

Want more crafty ideas to incorporate into your Advent Celebration? Check out the Truth in the Tinsel Pinterest page or the Truth in the Tinsel Facebook page.

Truth in the Tinsel is great for children who are not yet old enough for a Jesse Tree. However, we plan to do both with our family. We have our Jesse tree set up already and are really excited about starting our ornaments Sunday. Here are the free Jesse Tree printables from Christmas Your Way that we will be using for our tree. Also, here’s a free printable Advent devotional from Ann Voskamp that would be great for older children.

Black Friday discounts on fun theology and history DVDs for your kids (or you, or other adults!) from What’s In The Bible

We were big fans of Veggie Tales before the company changed hands, and so we were really excited to try out the new series from Phil Vischer (creator of Veggie Tales) called What’s In The Bible. I actually was introduced to it when I won a copy of Volume 1 from my friends over at 2 Teaching Mommies. Now, let me preface all this by telling you that I don’t really like puppets. I never have. (Anything by Jim Henson or the Sesame Street folks is an exception.) So I wasn’t sure how I was going to like this series. I was more than pleasantly surprised, because DVDs did NOT annoy me. In fact, they taught really intellectual, in-depth theology and church history in a way that’s entertaining and really easy to understand. Honestly, these are good for youth/adults to: anyone who isn’t sure what the Pentateuch is, or what “Septuagint” means, or why there are different numbers of books in Protestant & Catholic Bibles, or how the books of the Bible were actually chosen. That’s the caliber of these DVDs!
Here are some Black Friday deals from What’s In The Bible so you can experience them very inexpensively.

Volume 1 is only $5! It’s a great way to share What’s In The Bible? with your friends and family this Christmas or stock up to give out throughout the year! Ministry leaders can take advantage of this great deal to give Volume 1 to new or visiting families to your church!

Have Volume 1 but need to finish the rest of the series? Every DVD is just $10 through Monday, November 26! Round out your Buck Denver collection today with Volumes 2-9, Why Do We Call It Christmas? and Clive & Ian’s Wonder-Blimp of Knowledge! Shop now!

You can also get the new Why Do They Call It Christmas DVD for just $10. We are actually watching this DVD right now!

Get Disney’s Brave Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack for FREE today!

I posted earlier about the deal on Disney’s Brave DVD/Blu-ray combo Pack at Wal-mart ($8.96, available at 8 p.m. today). It’s still a good deal, and there’s a new coupon available for $6/2 select Disney Blu-rays, so if you were planning to purchase another DVD (like Tinkerbell’s Secret of the Wings) that may be your best deal. Or, I guess you could purchase two copies of Brave.

But, if you don’t want to leave your house you can grab the Brave Blu-ray/DVD combo pack for the same price today on Amazon! Plus, you can end up getting Brave for free when you submit for the $10 Kellogg’s rebate here!

Here’s how it works:

1.  Grab Brave when Amazon has it as a Lightning Deal at 3:20pm EST TODAY for $8.96 with free Super Saver shipping (or ships free with Amazon Prime). (Or, if you miss it, pick it up at Wal-mart for the same price.)

2.  Buy any 2 Kellogg’s cereals at Kroger or Publix (where they’re on sale this week). You shouldn’t pay more than $2/box.

Now, submit this $10 mail-in-rebate and it will be like getting Brave for free! (Or submit for one of the other rebates I posted about here.)

Can you tell I am determined to own this DVD for my girls today, one way or another?
