Giveaway and review: Antioxidant Omega-3 Greens from Tropical Traditions.

June 1, 2012

I recently had the chance to try a couple of types of Antioxidant Natural Omega-3 Greens from Tropical Traditions. First, I am sure a number of you are wondering, “What are greens?”

Here’s a description from the Tropical Traditions website:

Antioxidant Omega 3 Greens

  • Antioxidant Natural Greens contains 2600mg Organic Flax & Organic Flax Lignans per serving, rich in ALA Omega 3
  • Antioxidant Natural Greens provides dark green plants, herbs, spices, natural food concentrates, and nutritious fruits and vegetables to help meet your daily requirements.
  • Antioxidant Natural Greens supplies a rich blend of totally natural vitamins, minerals, plant enzymes, antioxidants, phytonutrients and symbiotic intestinal flora.

Plus a lot of other things I cannot list here because of FDA regulations. Check them out on the Tropical Traditions site.

Clear as mud?

Basically, antioxidant greens are a green powder that is full of healthy stuff that you should be eating. You hide them in things like smoothies.

In my grad school days I went through a super-healthy phase where I tried a lot of antioxidant greens. I found them to be kind of clumpy and gross, and pretty much swore them off. I decided to try Tropical Traditions’ greens for two reasons: 1. They were having a sale and I could get the berry flavored greens for 35% off (more in that in a minute). 2. They asked if I’d like to try the mint flavored greens for a review.

I was pleased to find that these greens, unlike the ones I’d previously experienced, do not taste icky! Plus, they dissolve into liquid really well.

Tropical Traditions antioxidant greens come in two flavors: berry and mint. You can get each of these with or without licorice. I happen to despise licorice, but for experimental purposes I ordered both with licorice and I personally cannot taste it at all.

I am sure there are a million recipes you can incorporate greens into (please comment if you have a good one to share!) but not being an expert in the kitchen, I’ve been making a lot of smoothies. Here are a few of the things I’ve tried.

Obviously the berry version goes great with fruit smoothies.

20120602-164614.jpg

I realize these smoothies are kind of, well, brown, but I promise they tasted great!! I tend to throw all kinds of things into my smoothies, and I didn’t find any kind of fruit that didn’t go well with the berry greens.

The mint greens are really minty, but not in a bad way. Not being creative in the kitchen I just combined them with a few varieties of vanilla and chocolate ice cream. This tasted great, but I realize it made for a less-than-healthy meal. I also mixed the mint greens into vanilla greek yogurt, and while that taste may not be for everyone, I liked it!

You can also just mix both varieties with water. That’s what I ended up doing with the mint greens.

Tropical Traditions is giving one Thrifty Christy reader a canister of antioxidant greens in your choice of berry or mint (with or without licorice)! These canisters would normally retail for $44– but are on sale through June 17 for $28.50. If you’d like to go ahead and try some you can purchase a canister on sale – like I did – and if you’re the winner of my giveaway you could always request a different flavor.

Here’s how to enter to win:

Required Entry:

Sign up for the Tropical Traditions email newsletter for early notice of their deals and specials. Then leave a comment below letting me know you’ve done so! That’s it! If you’re reading this on Facebook/Twitter hop on over to thriftychristy.com.

Additional Optional Entries:

You can do each of the following things for an additional entry in the giveaway. You can only do each of these once, for a possible total of 9 entries. Please leave a separate comment for each method of entry.

This giveaway ends at midnight EST on Thursday June 21. I will choose a winner on Friday June 22 using random.org and will contact them via email. Giveaway will be fulfilled by Tropical Traditions and is open to U.S. and Canadian residents only.

Also, if you place an order from Tropical Traditions by clicking on any of my referral links and have never ordered from Tropical Traditions in the past, you will receive a free book on Virgin Coconut Oil, and I will receive a discount coupon for referring you. I received the book with my first order and it’s very interesting!
