You know I love my Fandango passes. I’m basically collecting them. Here’s another Fandango deal available today from daily deal site Eversave: $13 for two movie tickets ($24 value). That’s a decent price for a non-matinee movie.

Small Business Saturday: get $25 free to spend at Little River Trading Company or other local businesses

It’s time for the Second Annual Small Business Saturday, which will take place on November 26. Go here to register your American Express card, and then on Nov. 26 head to a small, locally-owned businesss and spend $25 or more using the card you registered, and you’ll receive a $25 statement credit within a few days. (Only one credit per account – not per card – and a few other small-print details here.)

You can never be sure that this kind of thing will work, but I did this last year and it worked like a charm. I spent $26 before tax at Little River Trading Company, and in about 48 hours I had received a $25 credit on my AmEx account. I love this because I’m supporting a local company – they get to keep my $26 – and it’s American Experss that’s giving me my money back.

What qualifies something as a small business? I have no idea, other than the obvious: that it’s locally owned and not part of a chain. A number of small businesses don’t accept AmEx, either. If you know of another locally-owned business that does, please let me know.

I’m heading to Little River Trading Company for the second year in a row and will be getting my husband’s Christmas present there!

Giveaway and review: Kimochis (ridiculously cute) stuffed animals. Five winners!

We have a new addition to my household. This is my daughter’s new cat. We call her Kimochi Cat.

I hadn’t heard of Kimochis before doing this review, but now I’m a huge fan. Kimochis are precious stuffed animals made by the Plushy Feely Corp. Kimochi (Key.Mo.Chee) means “feeling” in Japanese, and they are intended to provide children, parents and educators with playful tools for learning to identify and express feelings. Each stuffed animal comes with a mini comic book and a stuffed “feeling.” Cat came with a stuffed “curious” keychain.

From the Plushy Feely Corp’s info:

“When kids can communicate their feelings effectively, they develop positive social skills that lead to lasting friendships and success in all aspects of life. I have a new favorite resale shop! Okay, I admit it, I have a soft spot for cute things for my home, and I am currently in love with a store in Knoxville called Nest. It’s a home furnishing resale shop that’s located at 149 N. Peters Road, just to the left of Panera Bread. Formerly known as Andrea’s Home Decor Boutique, it’s been featured on WBIR and Everything Knoxville.

I’ve been searching for just the right painting for my living room. Here’d the one I picked up. Isn’t it pretty above my splurge books? Nest was having a sale on artwork, which made the reasonable pricing even better!

“Clean Break From Abuse, Fresh Start Towards Love”: cleaning supply drive for Haven House and Heaven Sent Home

Here’s info from my friend Landra on a cleaning supply drive she’s spearheading for Haven House (our local women’s shelter) and Heaven Sent Home (our local homeless shelter). My church, Pleasant Grove Baptist, is participating as one fo the drop off sites. Please let me know if you have any questions and I’ll get answers for you right away!

 

It’s that time again! It is time to help the bravest women I know–the women and families at Haven House. Last Christmas, we were blown away with the enormous support for these families! By God’s grace, the community donated over 700 pair of pajamas to this center! This past summer, this same community donated over 1000 pieces of undergarments (underwear, bras, and pairs of socks)! This year, the center has asked that we help with cleaning supplies and toiletry items. Once again, I know God is in charge of all, and He will be glorified! We are asking that the community donates NEW, and UNOPENED (all for safety reasons) cleaning supplies, toiletry items (toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc.), laundry detergent (High Efficiency (HE) kind preferred), etc. for these families. They are always in need at the center, and with the home caring for up to 20 people at a time, the need is great. We hope this will care for them through the year!

 

Local friends, when shopping for your own supplies, perhaps buy an extra and take to one of the drop sites. Anything would help. For my “extreme couponers”, talk about impact! You can make a HUGE impact in the community by using your talent of couponing! If you can get something, for close to nothing, then do it for an amazing cause and for the amazing families!

 

For my “non-local” friends, all shelters are in need of these supplies. What a great time to give back and help those needing a “Fresh Start”.

 

There are close to 20 “Drop Sites” here in Blount County. We’ve tried to focus on “Locally owned and operated businesses”, as we love to support our community whether individual or business! Here is a list of “Drop Sites”. While there, thank them for their participation. The list, along with an article, will be printed in the Daily Times on Sunday. May God be glorified!
