Chick-fil-a: sign up for a free breakfast, starting tomorrow

Remember that starting tomorrow you can make a reservation for a free breakfast entrée at your local Chick-fil-a. My favorite is the chicken, egg & cheese bagel! (Not for those on a diet, but the bagel is whole grain so I can rationalize eating one.)

Handpainted Alphabet and Number Rocks from Brianne: a review and giveaway

My friend and fellow preschool teacher Brianne has started making handpainted alphabet and number rocks, and she was generous enough to give me an alphabet set to review! My girls are having a fantastic time with these. Above you’ll see Alice showing me her “favorite letter” (something that changes often.) I loved these so much I purchased a set of number rocks too!

Whenever you can get letters and numbers into the hands of preschoolers you know there’s learning taking place. In addition to the regular sorting and stacking you’d expect, these rocks have also gotten “baked” as “cookies,” used as currency, and flown about as people in an airplane. I cannot recommend these to you enough, and here’s the best part: each set is only $13! Even my husband was amazed at that price. Each rock is painted by hand and sealed for durability. There’s one alphabet set and three numbers sets, as seen below.

I’m going to purchase another set the number rocks (the counting dots) and we’ll use them for a matching game!

They’re really pretty stored and displayed in mason jars:

If you’d like to purchase a set you can email Brianne directly at griggsx5 at She’s currently taking orders for people from Blount/Knox/Loudon Counties only.

Brianne is also giving a set of your choice of alphabet or number rocks away to one lucky individual, and I’ll provide the mason jar for storage! This giveaway is only open to residents of Blount, Knox, and Loudon counties in Tennessee.

Here’s how to enter:

Required Entry:

Leave a comment on this post and let me know which set you’d prefer! (Your choices are: alphabet, numbers only, counting dots only, or number & counting dot stones.) If you’re reading this on Facebook/Twitter hop on over to

Additional Optional Entries:

You can do each of the following things for an additional entry in the giveaway. You can only do each of these once, for a possible total of 3 entries. Please leave a separate comment for each method of entry.

This giveaway ends at midnight EST on Thursday September 1. I will choose a winner on Friday September 2 using and will contact them via email. Giveaway open to US readers only.

This month’s Thrifty Christy article in the Blount Today: Birthday Freebies

Here are my girls celebrating birthdays at Chickfila. You can read all about their inexpensive party here.

Here’s my article from the current Blount Today, which is available on newsstands this week! It’s about all the free things my family members and I received for our birthdays this summer. You’ll want to sign up for these freebies too!

The article is also online at Blount Moms Today.

Freebies Make Birthdays Frugal Fun

Everyone in my household just happens to have a summer birthday, so we’ve been doing a lot of celebrating, and not just to recognize the passing of another year. Couponers look forward to birthdays because we know they are a great opportunity to rack up freebies from companies we frequent.

This does require a little work because in order to reward you, a company has to have at least a little bit of information about you, including your birthday, your email and sometimes your mailing address.

Here are some of the great free things my family and I received for our birthdays this summer. If any of these goodies interest you, be sure to go to the company’s website and sign up for their loyalty program or email list.

We usually celebrate birthdays by enjoying a free dessert at Aubrey’s, no coupon required.

Here are some of the other coupons we received by email to use anytime in celebration of our birthdays. Remember, unless noted, you do have to sign up ahead of time. You can’t always just show your driver’s license.

Free waffle at Waffle House

Free Brownie Sundae at Chili’s

Free Rooty Tooty Fresh ‘n Fruity meal at IHOP

Free ice cream from Baskin Robbins

Free Cream Slush from Sonic for the adults

Free Wacky Pack Kid’s Meal for our kids

Free drink from Starbucks (this coupon came by mail; you have to register a gift card with their My Starbucks Rewards program)

Free appetizer from Texas Roadhouse

Free Zaxby’s Nibbler sandwich for the grownups and a free kid’s meal for the children

Free Redbox movie rental

Free perfume from the Aveda Pure Privilege program.

$15 off a $15 purchase at the Polo Ralph Lauren outlet, courtesy of the Tanger Rewards program, which I’ve belonged to for two years now. You’ll receive a $10 gift certificate during your first year in the Tanger Rewards program.

50 free Swagbucks (search engine rewards program).

A 15 percent off coupon from American Eagle

100 Disney Movie Rewards points

Free movie ticket for each of my girls for any Kidtoons matinee movie. In Maryville these are shown at Carmike Theaters on the weekends.

20 percent off coupon from Hallmark Crown Rewards.

So, happy birthday to you, whenever it may be! Go ahead and sign up for the rewards I’ve mentioned, and you’re sure to have a fun, frugal, coupon-filled birthday.

Do you know of any local birthday freebies I’ve missed? Please let me know by commenting on this article!

$7/1 Brita pitcher coupon = $0.88 pitchers at Walmart!

There is a new $7/1 Brita Pour Through Pitcher coupon on “sale”for 45 points on Recyclebank (was 75 points). Take this coupon to Walmart where (I’ve read) these pitchers are on sale for $7.88, and you’ll only pay $0.88! This is perfect timing as my Brita pitcher just died. Also, Walgreens makes store-brand filters that fit Brita pitchers and are much less. That’s what I use.

Thanks, Couponing to Disney!

Puppy Chow Healthy Start Program – $2/1 coupon

Sign up for the Puppy Chow Healthy Start Program (email list) and you’ll receive a $2 coupon for a bag of Purina Puppy Chow.

I forget to share deals for pet items, as we don’t have pets. I’ve had a few people ask me for dog/cat food coupons, so I’ll try to share more as I find them.

Rummage sale fundraiser Saturday at Royal Travel

There will be a rummage sale this Saturday from 7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Royal Travel on Broadway by Horn of Plenty. Proceeds will benefit orphans in Africa. (At least I think that’s right. I was trying to read their sign while driving.)
