Blount Moms Today Webisode: National Fitness Center

There’s a new webisode from Blount Moms Today showing you around National Fitness Center in Maryville. This is my gym, and since I’m not one of those girls who wears makeup to the gym, or showers before working out (why? you’re going to shower again after, right? I just don’t get it.) or wears outfits that coordinate in any way, I’m really glad they weren’t filming while I was there!

By the way, my girls love the kids area, and I love that I don’t have to pay extra for it. Also, I love the big-screen movie room. I like being distracted while I have to work out.

Deal on Cheerios ($0.28/box) and granola bars ($0.91/box) at Kroger

UPDATE from Adrian: There is also a $.50 off 1 Cheerios coupon in the 6/26 SS which will double to $1.  This made the small (8.9 oz) Cheerios $.28 per box.  I stocked up on cereal this morning!!!  Happy Shopping ~ Adrian

I went to Kroger today to get cereal, since there’s a great deal on Cheerios and Nature’s Valley granola bars.

Right now they have a deal where, when you buy 4 of any of the participating items, you get $6 deducted automatically from your order. Cheerios count, as do Nature’s Valley granola bars, which is good, since I was out of both. You can do this deal three times per transaction, and apparently someone’s been making multiple transactions as the shelves were completely cleared of granola bars and the smallest size of Cheerios at the Alcoa Kroger! I headed to the Maryville one, and they did have both this morning, so I’d hurry.

The smallest size of Cheerios is the best deal per ounce, but this would be a good deal on either of the bigger sizes, too.

There are also coupons that match up with this deal. Here’s what I used on the Cheerios:

-$1/2 General Mills Cheerios cereals SS 7/17
-$1/2 General Mills select cereal, SS 7/10

And for the Nature’s Valley granola bars I used:

-.75/2 Nature Valley Granola bars, 6 ct +, excl Thins, SS 7/17

This made the cereal $0.78/box and the granola bars $0.91/box, before tax. Hopefully I bought enough granola bars to satisfy the people in my Sunday School class as well as the other random people in my church who cruise down the hall by my class and pop in for a quick granola bar. These things are popular.

While you’re there you can pick up some free Dial body wash of 3-packs of bars if you have the $0.50/1 Ivory bar or bodywash coupon from the 7/3 PG insert. (They’re on sale for $1, which is what the coupon doubles to.)

Thanks to my friend Adrian, who told me about these deals, and to Jenny at Southern Savers for the coupon matchups! There are also some other links to printable coupons and e-coupons at Southern Savers.

This sale is good through Saturday.

Mystery writer Beverly Conner to speak in Knoxville on August 4

Here’s an interesting event, if you’re a writer or someone who loves mystery novels.
File this one under “things I would love to do if I had a babysitter.”
From the press release:
Acclaimed mystery author Beverly Connor will be discussing how one’s personal experiences can play into their literary pursuits at the Thursday, August 4 meeting of the Knoxville Writers’ Guild. Connor says she will explore “why writers are told to write what they know and why it is only a jumping-off point – and why knowledge is magic.”
The meeting, which will be open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. at the Laurel Theater , at the corner of Laurel Avenue and 16th Streets (in Fort Sanders ). A $2 donation is requested at the door. The building is handicapped accessible.
An Oak Ridge native, Beverly Connor has returned to her hometown after many colorful years in her professional fields of interest. Beverly holds advanced degrees in archaeology, anthropology and geology. Her singular educational background found her working in Georgia and South Carolina as an archaeologist, doing both fieldwork and analyzing artifacts; she long specialized in the Southeastern Indians of the Mississippian period (900-700 AD).
Connor’s love of archaeology has always been great. Somewhere along the way, she became motivated to combine this devotion with another of her longstanding loves – mystery stories. This conjoining immediately assumed a personal tone, as she began weaving her professional experiences as an archaeologist and her knowledge of the South into interlinked, intrigue-filled stories of the past and present. This was a literary approach that definitely went on to work in Beverly’s favor, evolving into her two successful mystery series, named after their protagonists, Diane Fallon and Lindsay Chamberlain.
Connor’s “Diane Fallon Series” centers on a forensic anthropologist who is also a director of a museum of natural history. A former human rights investigator, Diane couldn’t stay away from her crime-solving for long; so, along with her museum duties, she returned to forensic work. The Fallon series so far embraces nine volumes, including One Grave Too Many, Dead Guilty, The Night Killer and the recently published One Grave Less. Currently, Beverly is at work on Diane’s tenth adventure, entitled Blood Evidence.
Connor’s present creative attentions are being divided between Blood Evidence and Kill Site, her sixth entry in the “Lindsay Chamberlain Series.” Lindsay assumes the role of detective in the series. An archaeologist and forensic anthropologist on the faculty of the University of Georgia , she’s sought after in crime investigations because of her expertise with bones, human skeletal remains. A Rumor of Bones, Questionable Remains and Airtight Case are among the books in the “Lindsay Chamberlain Series.”
Lindsay Chamberlain and Diane Fallon have done very well by Beverly Connor – as she as by them. Their stories have placed Connor in the Top 10 of the Independent Mystery Booksellers best-seller lists. In 2004, Beverly won the Career Achievement Award in Suspense from RT BOOKClub magazine. The writer’s most recent accolade has come from RT Bookreviews, who has named One Grave Less the Best Suspense Novel of 2010.
Connor’s literary honors have been rooted in her highly-knowledgeable theory that “an archaeologist makes the perfect detective because archaeologists and detectives have the same problem facing them in their jobs – to uncover the true story, working only from biased and incomplete data that’s left behind.” This concept has been brought to the fore in print by Connor time and again, resulting in captivating tales of murder and intrigue.
Through the eyes of Beverly Connor, a thoroughly fascinating evening of things personal to an author is promised for the August meeting of the Knoxville Writers’ Guild.

Have you RSVPd for The Beach Ball? Remember, it’s this Saturday 7/30

You’re planning on coming to The Beach Ball this Saturday from 7 – 9 p.m., right? Remember, this is an event for the whole family, so you won’t need to get a babysitter! National Fitness is providing some great employees to play with your kids, including pool activities, so make sure to pack swimsuits for them.

I’ll be wearing a cute Badgley Mischka sundress over my swimsuit (of course you know it was a crazy-cheap outlet find!) with sparkly flip-flops and my husband will probably wear his white shirt/linen pants getup, and may bring his swimsuit. So that answers your question about what to wear.

You do need to RSVP to attend, and you can do that here.

Also, did I mention this is how I’ll be celebrating my birthday? So now you have to attend.  🙂

$25 for a coupon seminar, 10-week News Sentinel subscription, and donation to food bank

This Saturday July 30 from 10 a.m. – 12 noon my friend Gabe from Couponing in Critical Times will be presenting a coupon workshop at the News Sentinel headquarters in Knoxville. (There will also be booths from various vendors from 9 a.m. – noon.) The fee for the coupon workshop is $25, but that includes a 10-week subscription to the News Sentinel (think Sunday coupons) and a food bank donation too!

Gabe is very knowledgable and I’m sure this will be a great workshop.

I won’t be able to make it, as I have a kids’ birthday party to attend in Chattanooga. That’s also the night of the Beach Ball!

Busy weekend!

Free box of Toy Story 2 Band-Aids from Shop at Home – hurry, will sell out soon!

You can get a free box of Toy Story 2 Band-Aids from right now by going through Shop at Home! I just did this and will have paid only $0.20 tax! They had Hello Kitty and Spongebob Band-Aids to offer this morning and they all sold out, so I’d hurry if you’re interested.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Go here to create a free Shop at Home account, or log in to your existing account. (If you’re new you’ll get a one-time $5 bonus for signing up, but that doesn’t relate to this deal.)

2. Look on the right sidebar for the Walmart WILD deal. It looks like this:

3. Click on it and order the Toy Story Band-Aids from Walmart. You’ll pay $2.18 and get a $2.18 rebate back in your Shop at Home account. Plus, they ship free!

If you have any questions about how Shop at Home or other rebate companies like Ebates work, leave a commend and I’ll be glad to answer!
