Staples deals this week 3/27/11 – 4/2/11

Thinking about making a Staples run this week? There are a few deals to make it worth your time.

First, Duracell AA or AAA batteries are $12.99 with $12.99 back in Staples Rewards, so kind of free. There are a few coupons, below. Remember that if you have existing Staples Rewards do not use them to pay for this item or you won’t get that amount back. For example, if you have $6 in existing Staples Rewards and you use them to pay for the batteries then you’ll only receive $6.99 back in Staples rewards. That’s lost money. Use your rewards for something else. That being said, check your 2/27 PG insert for a $0.50/1 or $0.75/1 coupon. These will also reduce the amount of Staples Rewards you get back but I consider that okay because it reduces the amount OOP (out of pocket) which is always good.

Second, you can get free Scotch Magic Tape. It’s on sale this week for $1 and you can use the $1/1 coupon found here.

Third, Hammermill copy paper is $5.99 with a $4.99 rebate. You can do this again even if you’ve bought it in previous weeks, as it’s a new rebate. I buy this to donate to my church and the preschool at which I work. If you don’t have a stash of coupon-printing paper handy this would be a great way to get it. Limit 2 per customer.

Also, you can get $2 in Staples Rewards for every ink cartridge you recycle, which is a great way to get a little extra store credit to spend. You can recycle up to 10 a month.

Stock up prices, from the experts, plus a great grocery iPhone app

So, this weekend I had a phone message from a friend asking me how much was too much to pay for hot dogs. I believe that was the entire purpose of the call. Now, I am not the kind of girl who can retain too much detailed information anymore. Not after having kids. I can barely remember my own phone number. I definitely don’t remember what a good price for a particular item is. Some people I know keep price books, and that’s a good idea if you’re detail-oriented and organized. I am neither, so I hunted down the stock-up prices from two blogs I trust so that I could share that info with you all.

Here is a stockpile list from Southern Savers.

Here is a stockpile list from Money Saving Mom.

Both have great information. However, when calling back my friend to answer her question, I did not consult either of those lists. Rather, I consulted one of my favorite iPhone apps from Kelly at Faithful Provisions. The app is called “Provisions” and it is available for free here. It lists what she considers a ceiling price for an item as well as a target price for the same item with sales and coupons. For example, for hot dogs, the “don’t pay more than” price is $1.25/pack, while the “aim for” price is $0.50/pack.

I use the Provisions app a lot while shopping and can heartily recommend it. And it’s free, so you can’t beat that!

Donate bras to help fight human trafficking – this Wednesday

An act as simple as donating used bras you no longer need can change the life of a former slave and can help fight the war against human trafficking. Isha at Knoxville Mambelle explains exactly why the bra is considered a luxury item and status symbol in sub-Saharan Africa and exactly the bras donated will be helping women who are starting new lives for themselves. Read more here.

This is a really easy way to give back! So ladies, please clean out your bra drawer and bring your gently used bras to the Broadway United Methodist Church in downtown Maryville on Wednesday, March 30. The UMW Follies will be doing the collection at the front of the church from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Or, please contact Aryn Faughnan at arynf04 (at) gmail (dot) com if you cannot make the event.

I’ll definitely be bringing a number of bras by on my way to church!

Thanks, Isha!

…and a great time was had by all at the Blount Moms Today magazine launch party

We celebrated the launch of the Blount Moms Today magazine last night at the Hilton. It was a wonderful party! Thanks to Sarah Herron, Rebecca Tatum, and Jen Hill for organizing a great event, and thank you to publisher Sherri Gardner Howell for making the whole night possible. Thanks also to my long-suffering husband, Ash (above) who was very pleasant about being abandoned a number of times throughout the night so I could go meet people, hand out door prizes, and other fun tasks. Here are a few more photos I took during the event. Enjoy!

Rebecca Tatum, me, Angie Kirby, and Sonya Christopher.

JSL Bloomingdeals Preview Party aka thrift shopping in cocktail attire

Had a great time at the Bloomingdeals preview party yesterday, and found some awesome deals! Since I had to go straight from the preview party to the Blount Moms Today launch party, I went thrift shopping in cocktail attire. Why not?

I wasn’t alone; Katherine Caputo and Casey Roper, above, joined me in dressing up to go from party to party. What a fun night! I hope if you weren’t able to make it to the preview party last night that you were at the Bloomingdeals sale this morning. If not, you still have about an hour until the sale ends, so get going!
